Welcome to the Vacancies Section of the Okashana RDC. Here you will find information on jobs currently available. Your application letter should be accompanied by certified copies of qualifications and a comprehensive CV and directed to the centre Manager.

INTRODUCTION

Okashana Rural Development is one of the three rural development centres of the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development. The center is under the auspices of the Oshikoto Regional Council. The Okashana RDC is situated 10 kilometres south east of Omuthiya Town on D3646 road toward King Nehale Gate of the Etosha National Park.

The Centre provides accommodation and conference facilities; and offers outreach services to rural communities in and around Oshikoto Region. The center has the following vacancies:

1) Head of Appropriate Technology Unit

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree in mechanical engineering in the field of Agriculture or equivalent qualification
  • 2 years or more appropriate technology experience in practical action, using integrated approaches and appropriate technology solutions
  • Leadership skills in leading appropriate technology industrial workshop
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
  • Valid driversí license
  • Good command of spoken and written English
  • Be able to work independent as well as in a team
  • Computer literate
  • Key performance areas:

    • Lead the implementation of the appropriate technology program at Okashana RDC
    • Assist in conducting research on appropriate technology products to be manufactured
    • Map out Okashana RDC development strategies; evaluate the effectiveness of on-going center appropriate technology activities and make recommendations on improvements;
    • Develop synergy with rural development agencies in Namibia and beyond for information sharing, networking, partnership, piloting and replications of best practices;
    • Maintain a well-organized appropriate technology environment and provide good services to local community and beyond.
    • Provide administrative support to the management
    • Leading the development and production of required manufactured appropriate technology merchandises

2) Head of Hospitality Unit

Minimum requirements:

  • Degree/diploma in the field of hospitality industry or equivalent
  • At least 3 years experience in hospitality industries
  • Advanced hospitality industry skills such as competence in catering, accommodation and conferencing services will be an advantage
  • Fluent in English and able to speak at least one Namibian language
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must have a valid driverís license
  • Computer literate
  • Key performance areas:

    • Supervise and oversee hospitality department and maintain full capacity utilization of the department
    • Develop synergy with rural development agencies in Namibia and beyond for information sharing, networking, partnership, piloting and replications of best practices;
    • Map out Okashana RDC development strategies; evaluate the effectiveness of on-going center activities and make recommendations on improvements;
    • Coordinates and exercise control over the implementation of approved strategies of hospitality section
    • Recommends and implements approved specific sectional strategic objectives to ensure required results

3) Head of Community Development and Marketing

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree in Community Development/Natural Resources Management/Agricultural or related qualification
  • Minimum 5 years experience in community development initiatives or agriculture extension services with at least 3 year in a senior position
  • Leadership skills in community development activities
  • Strong knowledge of marketing and project management
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
  • Valid driversí license
  • Good command of spoken and written English
  • Be able to work independent as well as in a team
  • Computer literate
  • Masters degree in the above mentioned fields will be an added advantage

    Key performance areas:

    • Facilitating community development initiatives
    • Ensure proper administration and monitoring of community empowerment and transfer of developmental initiatives
    • Ensuring public inputs into development plans and projects
    • Ensuring good planning and management of the Community Based Resource Management and Sustainable Livelihood Project activities
    • Map out Okashana RDC development strategies; evaluate the effectiveness of on-going center community development and marketing activities and make recommendations on areas of improvements;
    • Develop synergy with rural development agencies in Namibia and beyond for information sharing, networking, partnership, piloting and replications of best practices;
    • Maintain a well-organized community development and marketing environment and provide good services to local communities and stakeholders.
    • Provide administrative support to the management committee.

4) Research and Development Officer

Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree in Community Development/Agriculture/Natural resources/Environment and related field
  • At least 2 years experience in the field of research and development
  • Driverís license
  • Research and Project management skills
  • Be able work independent, and in a team
  • Good command of English and local language
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Pleasant, enthusiastic community development initiative
  • Computer literate

    Key performance areas:

    • Conduct research on value addition to local natural products that have traditional values and have potential for up scaling for economic derivatives as they may be used as medicinal and food value addition purposes;
    • Assist Okashana RDCís Appropriate Technological (AT) manufacturing Unit with products identification and research;
    • Map out Okashana RDC development strategies; evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing center activities and make recommendations on improvements;
    • Develop synergy with rural development agencies in Namibia and beyond for information sharing, networking, partnership, piloting and replications of best practices;
    • Assist the community outreach department with projects planning and implementation in and outside the centre and provide technical supports;
    • Assist with marketing and training awareness material development and distribution
    • Supervise horticultural activities at the centre and aassist other units of the center especially the maintenances and hospitality team
